Lansing — Michigan Economic Development Corp. CEO Quentin Messer Jr. is a "potential target" of a criminal investigation into a $20 million grant administered by his state agency, Attorney General Dana Nessel's office said in a court filing this week.

The MEDC was informed on June 23 that Messer was a potential target of the probe and "possibly" executive team member Josh Hundt, according to a filing this week by Nessel's office. Any statements from the MEDC maintaining that a June 18 raid of the agency did not involve a "target" is a "misunderstanding of this investigation," the filing said.
