Community gardens growing for the greater good

Bright yellow sunflowers tower over fences and turn bright faces to the sky throughout the patch of earth on Detroit’s east side officially known as the Georgia Street Community Collective ( georgiastreetcc.com ). “They reseeded themselves,” says Mark Covington of the sea of cheerful flowers. A lifelong resident of the neighborhood, Covington serves as the community garden and urban farm’s founder and executive director, posts he has held since 2010.
