With a possible two million Powerball tickets sold in South Carolina this week alone, no one in the Palmetto State — or elsewhere — hit the winning jackpot, which is nearing an all-time record.
The jackpot is estimated to reach $1.7 billion before the Sept. 6 drawing, with an anticipated cash payout option of $770 million. This is the third-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. A record $2.04 billion jackpot was won in 2022.
The number of Powerball tickets sold in South Carolina before the Sept. 3 drawing isn’t known. However, the S.C. Education Lottery reported that $6.1 million was spent here on Powerball tickets this week leading up to the last drawing.
At $3 per play ($2 for the Powerball ticket and $1 for the Power Play option), that would come to more than 2 million tickets
