The Rotary Club of Newnan welcomed Abigail Kimbell of Pathways Center at its Wednesday meeting, where she shared the mission behind this weekend’s No One Walks Alone suicide awareness event.

Kimbell, who serves as director of marketing and communications at Pathways, said the annual event grew out of a need to confront the stigma around mental health and provide resources for families. What began in 2021 with more than 300 participants has since grown to draw nearly 1,000 people each year.

“This is not a conversation we want to have with our kids or our family members, but it’s important because it’s real and it’s happening,” Kimbell told Rotarians. “The goal is to start that conversation, make it a little less taboo, and hopefully empower people to make changes and prevent it.”
