Black Bear’s fledgling US distribution venture has picked David Michôd’s boxing biopic Christy starring Sydney Sweeney as its first film and has scheduled a nationwide release on November 7. The drama gets its world premiere here at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, September 4-14) on Friday.

Christy went into TIFF technically as a sales title, however Thursday’s announcement was not entirely unexpected, given that Black Bear financed the film, is one of the producers, and handles international sales on the film.

UTA Independent Film Group and AC Independent co-represented US rights and negotiated the deal with Black Bear on behalf of the filmmaking team
