CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Cincinnati City Council unanimously votes to repeal the zoning restrictions it approved in April for a major development project around Hyde Park Square.
The change of heart comes after pushback from community members.
Thursday’s vote now gives the developers and the residents of Hyde Park Square the zoning requirements they need to transform the area around Hyde Park Square without compromising its historic feel.
“The difference is what was proposed back in April is no longer on the table because the developer has compromised, the community has compromised,” Cincinnati City Council Member Mark Jeffreys said.
The grass-roots group Save Hyde Park Square collected 18,000 signatures and was willing to take the old development plan to a vote on the November ballot.
