KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Flyers who use Sky Ranch Airport are expecting plenty of cleanup and recovery after Thursday’s storm damaged planes and hangers at the Alcoa area airport.
“The moment we got the visibility back, we couldn’t believe it. It was about 30 seconds,” Thomas Main, who keeps two planes at the airport, said.
He said Sky Ranch is home to the East Tennessee Flying Club, a group of pilots based out of the airport. Main said many club members store their planes at the airport.
“These are all my friends, and I just hate to see anybody have damage to their aircraft or their hanger,” Main said, adding that some planes had bent wings and others had entire tails knocked off.
“Very intense,” he said. “Not what we were expecting today.”
That said, the club plans to rebuild.
