Thursday marked the start of construction of a new residential tower by Tricar Group in London’s Old South, a project coming amid a major slowdown in home construction this year in the city. London Free Press reporter Jonathan Juha notes that it’s also one of the first projects in which the local developer is taking advantage of federal and provincial incentive programs that remove taxes from purpose-built rental projects. The initiative is meant to spur the construction of more rental units in Canada.
THE PROJECT
The 18-storey residential tower, called the Mayfair, will be located at 96 Ridout St. , south of Horton Street, in Wortley Village. It will comprise 168 units and feature brownstone-style structures on the first three floors to match the character of the neighbourhood.
