NORTHERN ARIZONA (AZFamily) — As an active wildfire season has burned through parts of Arizona this summer, some fire restrictions are being lifted in parts of the High Country thanks to recent rainfall.
Officials with the Grand Canyon National Park announced that, effective Thursday, Stage 2 fire restrictions will be lifted on the South Rim of the park.
Park officials say rain from increased monsoon activity has decreased fire danger across northern Arizona. Stage 2 fire restrictions include prohibiting campfires, charcoal grills and open flames.
However, Stage 1 fire restrictions are still in place for South Rim visitors, prohibiting open fires and campfires except in designated recreation areas or campgrounds. Campfires and other open fires are never allowed below the rim.
