Spirit Airlines will no longer operate at Portland International Airport after Oct. 3, the company and the Port of Portland confirmed Thursday.
The discount airline, which had already cut flights at PDX during the past year, according to the Port of Portland, will also discontinue service at 10 other locations.
The decision comes after the company filed for bankruptcy for the second time in the past year. Some of its troubles have stemmed from its difficult rebound from low travel during COVID-19 years.
At the time of its first bankruptcy filing in November, Spirit had lost more than $2.5 billion since the start of 2020. By August, the carrier’s parent company, Spirit Aviation Holdings, said it had “substantial doubt” about its ability to operate normally over the next year.
