FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- On August 21, flames tore through Wildwood Ridge Apartments in Fayetteville.

Tenants said it wasn't the smoke, the detectors or alarms that warned them; it was a voice of a neighbor screaming in the hallway.

Joanna Miller said she immediately raced out of her apartment unit when she saw the flames, yelling for everyone to get out.

"There were no alarms, nothing was going off, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, everyone get out, everyone get out, there is a fire.'" Miller said.

This alerted her neighbor, Maryann Gardinier, who escaped the burning building, turned around, and saw the fire climbing fast.
