Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. defended his controversial overhaul of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during a heated Capitol Hill hearing, clashing with senators from both parties who accused him of endangering public health.

During the hearing, Kennedy and Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., exchanged sharp words.

"You're so wrong on your facts!" Kennedy said. Cantwell retorted, "You're interrupting me, and you, sir, are a charlatan. That's what you are."

The secretary argued that the CDC is plagued by politics and emphasized the need to restore trust. Kennedy added, "We are the sickest country in the world, that's why we need to fire people at CDC."
