ATLANTA — A reckless driver led a trooper on a chase on the interstate in Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

GSP said around 2:45 p.m., a trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a black 2024 Nissan Versa for a traffic violation on I-75 South. Authorities said the driver refused to stop, which initiated the pursuit.

The man behind the wheel is accused of driving recklessly, merging onto the I-75/85 South Connector. GSP said the driver got off the interstate at the Williams Street exit and turned right onto Ivan Allen Boulevard. Troopers said he ran a red light and hit a car. After the crash, the driver, GSP said, lost control of the car, hit a tree while traveling backwards before the Nissan came to a stop.
