ROCKFORD — A Rockford man is in custody after a shooting caused damage to a downtown bar.
Rockford Police officers were called to District Bar & Grill for reports of shots fired outside of the bar at around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Rockford Police Violent Crime Detectives identified the suspect as 26-year-old Avery Jones of Rockford, on parole with the Illinois Department of Corrections. Jones turned himself in Wednesday night, Sept. 3, on an unrelated arrest warrant. He was taken to Winnebago County Jail.
Jones had a previous conviction of Home Invasion and Residential Burglary in DeKalb County dating back to 2020.
Detectives used a search warrant at Jones's home Thursday morning. They found handgun magazines, live ammunition, and a marijuana grow operation.
