KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - In a statement posted to Facebook on Thursday, District Attorney General Stephen Hatchett says he respects the decision of indicting several members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office jail staff in the in-custody death of Elijah Isbill on Feb. 6.

Hatchett recalled in the statement the timeline from the moment he learned of Isbill’s death to when a Monroe County grand jury returned an indictment against Joshua Duncan, Tommy Reagan, Tyler Finger, Jerron Henry and Elijah Spencer on Sept. 3. This included the investigation into Isbill’s manner of death that revealed his ‘extensive health issues.’

On July 9, Hatchett asked the Monroe County grand jury to look into the management of the Monroe County Jail.
