COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) is advancing a major infrastructure overhaul with the Kelker Substation Expansion, located on South Academy Boulevard.
Construction began in January 2023, and while the project is scheduled for completion in 2028, it’s already helping transform the region’s power grid.
The upgrade nearly doubles the substation’s footprint, positioning it to become the Utility’s largest substation. It will integrate new high-voltage transmission lines, downtown and the southeast side of the city, to better manage regional power flow and system responsiveness.
