Quarterback Brendan Sullivan, who was not healthy enough to play a significant role in Tulane’s season-opening win against Northwestern, will get a real opportunity behind starter Jake Retzlaff at South Alabama.
Coach Jon Sumrall confirmed Sullivan’s readiness for the 6 p.m. game (ESPN+) after practice on Thursday.
“Brendan’s going to do more,” he said. “I’ve made the decision he’s going to play.”
Sumrall said Sullivan, who transferred from Iowa in May, was neck and neck with Retzlaff for the starting job and maybe slightly ahead before sustaining a bone bruise and high ankle sprain during practice on Aug. 14. He returned to practice last week but lacked the mobility that made him a tremendous running threat in offensive coordinator Joe Craddock’s scheme. Limited to being a decoy on a w
