KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WFRV) - A Mexican national living in Kaukauna was arraigned Wednesday on a previously sealed indictment for allegedly making a false statement in an application for a passport.

Richard G. Frohling, the Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced that 46-year-old Erik J. Paz-Zavaleta could face up to 10 years in prison or up to $250,000 in fines if convicted.

According to the release, Paz-Zavaleta, on or around March 7, 2022, "willfully and knowingly made a false statement" in a passport application. He also allegedly used another person's identity to obtain a passport under United States authority.
