A man was killed Thursday after crashing his vehicle down an embankment along westbound Interstate 10 in Cathedral City.

The crash was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. Thursday west of Palm Drive near the Gene Autry Trail exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer David Torres said a white Kia Sorento made an unsafe right turn, left the roadway and went down an embankment for unknown reasons.

Paramedics arrived roughly 30 minutes later and pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

No other occupants were inside the Sorento, Torres said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation by the CHP.
