The Monterey football team will go for win No. 1 under coach Jason Sims when the Plainsmen host Abilene Wylie on Thursday at Lowrey Field.

Choctaw, the reigning 6A-II state champion of Oklahoma, spoiled Sims' debut with a 44-23 victory in last week's opener.

Sims took responsibility for the loss, vowing Thursday to be a better play-caller in an effort to jumpstart the Monterey offense.

Wylie blanked Brownwood 25-0 in Week 1. The Bulldogs beat Monterey 29-28 last season in Abilene.
