Firefighters battled two separate blazes in Berrien County. The first call came in around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 4, when the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety assisted Benton Charter Township Fire Department at a hay barn fire in the 2900 block of Empire. Crews arrived to find the barn fully engulfed. Benton Harbor units helped with overhaul operations, while Squad 51 and Engine 54 shuttled water from hydrants further down the road. Later, at 5 p.m., Benton Harbor firefighters responded with Benton Charter Township, the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, and Lincoln Charter Township Fire Department to a garage fire in the 800 block of Vineyard.
