BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- City officials are considering updating local bicycle ordinances to address the recent increase in the use of electric bikes (e-bikes).
The changes would address public safety, particularly relating to conflicts between pedestrians and fast-moving e-bikes on sidewalks.
Some residents brought their concerns to a Sept. 2 meeting of City Council’s Environment, Safety and Community Services Committee.
Several speakers, including a local bike shop owner, expressed concerns about what they believe are rider recklessness, a lack of courtesy and dangerous modifications to the bikes.
Committee members agreed to move forward with drafting new legislation.
