BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Are Louisiana's voter rolls safe and secure? Secretary of State Nancy Landry said early info from an investigation has some answers.

The findings show that almost three million residents registered to vote, and 390 non-citizens were also registered to vote, going back to the 1980s. About 79 of those voted at least once in all those years.

Landry admits that's a sliver of the millions of ballots cast.

"Let me be clear, any instance of a non-citizen voting dilutes the vote of eligible citizens,” Secretary Landry declared. She says in May of this year, Louisiana became the first state in the nation to use the new and improved Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE database, from the Department of Homeland Security.
