FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Athletes from around the world are flocking to Fayette County, West Virginia, to compete in the 2025 Spartan Trifecta World Championship.

The opening ceremony on Thursday featured a parade of nations to showcase the countries represented.

More than 800 athletes are registered to compete in the championships, which are being hosted for the first time ever on U.S. soil.

For athletes to earn a medal for the trifecta, they must complete what are known as a sprint, a super, and a beast race.

The event takes place Saturday and Sunday in Glen Jean, West Virginia.
