Claire Ward is currently walking 'The Loop' in stages with members of local communities, including, here, Emma Simpson from Rural Action Derbyshire
If you have pottered around the Peak District in the last two months, you might have noticed a lady in a red blazer on some of the region’s most popular walking routes.
At the start of June, the Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, set off on a challenge that, in stages, will take her the best part of a year to complete. She’s walking 150 miles on a circular route between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, which she hopes to popularise as an official circuit known as ‘The Loop.’
“It’ll be a major tourist attraction,” said the Mayor. “In the long term, I want to promote this as a place where people will come and say: ‘I’m going to w
