Five-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper is retiring from football, just hours before the NFL season gets underway.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday afternoon that Cooper is retiring after signing with the Raiders -- the team that initially drafted him -- last month.
“Amari Cooper has informed the team that he no longer has the desire to play and intends to retire,” Rapoport posted on X .
The 31-year-old Cooper is retiring ahead of the Raiders game against the Patriots on Sunday.
Amari Cooper agreed to a one-year contract with the Raiders on Aug. 25 before having a change of heart 10 days later.
The former Alabama star started his career with the Raiders in 2015 before going on to play for the Cowboys, Browns and Bills.
