ST. LOUIS – Demolition is underway at the historic Clinton-Peabody Apartments in the city’s Peabody–Darst–Webbe neighborhood.
Built in 1942, Clinton-Peabody is the oldest public housing development in St. Louis City. In 2023, residents voted overwhelmingly to demolish the existing buildings and replace them with modern housing.
The redevelopment will create 350 new mixed-income apartments and affordable homes, centered around a reconfigured street grid, a renovated community center, and a new central park.
Clinton-Peabody residents who lived in the buildings that were demolished were moved to “refreshed” on-site units in 2023 and 2024. Current residents will have a chance to move into the redevelopment as new units become available.
Construction will start on the first wave of new unit
