Brennaman arrived in Cincinnati in 1974 and quickly made it his home. He said that everyone in his profession thinks the grass is greener elsewhere, but he was never affected by that mindset and grew to love Cincinnati quickly.

Despite opportunities to leave, including a close call with the Boston Red Sox in 1981, Brennaman chose to stay.
