PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Friends and family are remembering Melissa Jubane, who authorities now say was murdered, on the one-year anniversary of her initial disappearance.

Though the nurse's accused killer is behind bars awaiting trial next year, her coworkers at Providence St. Vincent in Southwest Portland are still fighting to keep her memory alive.

September 4, 2024, is a date that Leanna Walczak will always remember, when her friend, Melissa Jubane, vanished.

"It was just very chaotic few days of trying to figure out what was happening, within the community and everything else," Walczak said. • Melissa Jubane in an undated photo provided September 7, 2024 (Courtesy) • Melissa Jubane with her husband.
