ESCANABA — Harriet Emily Ihlenfeldt, age 100, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba.

Harriet was born on June 7, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Daisy (Bengry) Alvord. Harriet grew up in Marquette and graduated from Graveraet High School. She later graduated from Northern Michigan University and continued on at the University of Michigan earning her Masters Degree in library science.

Harriet relocated to Escanaba in 1948 and was employed at the U.P. branch of the Michigan State Library. She started as a part time employee in 1961, became full time in 1966, and was reference librarian in 1968. In 1981, she became the director and retired from that position in 1987.
