Harrisburg-McDevitt rivalry delivers drama despite key injuries

When two state powerhouses collide, expectations run high. When those two teams are longtime rivals Harrisburg and Bishop McDevitt, something special almost always emerges from the collision. Week 2’s 29-21 Harrisburg victory at a steamy Severance Field proved again why this matchup remains one of Pennsylvania high school football’s premier events, even if injuries to star running backs altered the script.

“I thought, you know, I think a lot of people were penciling this into not be a blowout, but be a pretty, you know, Harrisburg controlled game,” Dan Sostek observed on the PA High School Football Report podcast. “And in some ways it was. It never really felt like Harrisburg was going to lose that game despite McDevitt playing them really close.”
