Florida's plan to end all its state vaccine mandates stood in stark contrast to New York's ongoing efforts to reinforce its school vaccination requirements.

In announcing its plan on Sept. 3, Florida's surgeon general, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, said every one of that state's vaccine mandates, including those for school vaccinations, drips " with disdain and slavery ." The comments prompted warnings from national health care groups, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, that ending school vaccine mandates would put kids at higher risk of illness, and have "ripple effects across their community."
