Norfolk County prosecutors spent about $850,000 on outside experts and research for Karen Read’s retrial , according to records released Wednesday.
District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey’s office released the experts’ invoices to the Globe in response to a public records request. Those costs came on top of the roughly $566,000 that special prosecutor Hank Brennan billed the office for his work on the retrial.
The combined $1.4 million price tag doesn’t cover all the costs associated with the trial, such as police details for monitoring the crowds outside court.
But it far eclipses the bill for the first trial, which cost the state roughly $700,000, the Globe reported in December.
Read , 45, was acquitted in June of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe ,
