PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (WFLA)— A former Pinellas Park police officer was arrested after traveling to meet an 11-year-old, officers said.

The Pinellas Park Police Department started investigating Gary Mygdal, 73, on Sept. 4.

During the investigation, officers determined that Mygdal engaged in inappropriate and sexually explicit conversations with a person he thought was an 11-year-old girl, officers said.

Mygdal agreed to meet the girl at what he thought was her home to engage in sexual activity.

According to officers, Mygdal was located on 49th Street North and was arrested for traveling to meet a minor for intimate sexual activities.

Mygdal is a former Pinellas Park Police Officer from 1974 to 1984.

According to PPPD, Mygdal was serving on two City of Pinellas Park boards.
