Either the City of Calgary has bought a concrete supplier or someone in city hall has an uncle in the sidewalk business, because it feels like every curb, corner and sidewalk is being torn up right now and, on occasion, torn up again.

I have often suggested that the best business in Calgary is supplying orange cones and barriers, but now I am beginning to think it is concrete removal and installation.

Last Saturday, driving from Blackfoot Trail to WestHills led me through four detours. One in Glamorgan even had a second detour en route.

My Saturday morning coffee group watched two years ago while the sidewalks on 11th Street S.W. were removed, along with any parking in front of those businesses. This summer, we watched those new sidewalks being torn out and replaced to incorporate wider
