GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) -- New research confirms that exercise can significantly benefit cancer patients by reducing the risk of death and recurrence of tumors.

As part of our “Ask the Expert” series, in partnership with Bon Secours St. Francis, 7NEWS spoke with an oncologist, who says these findings are a big deal.

The study has shown that exercise can lower the risk of cancer patients dying by a third and may help prevent tumors from returning. This groundbreaking research took 15 years to complete and focused on colon cancer patients who had undergone surgery.

Dr. Kevin Koehler, an oncologist at Bon Secours Saint Francis, emphasized the importance of these findings, stating, "It was one of the only times we have what we call level one evidence to recommend exercise after a surgery."
