The University of Alaska has until the end of 2026 to identify and submit 500,000 acres of selected land to the Bureau of Land Management as part of the process for receiving outstanding land grants from the federal government.
Since 2023, 96,406 acres have been submitted to BLM, with 350,000 acres identified, Director of Land Management at UA, Adrienne Stople, told the board of regents Thursday during their Facilities and Land Management Committee meeting.
As a land-grant institution, UA is entitled to approximately half a million acres of federal lands as a way to provide long-term funding for public higher education.
They currently possess around 150,000 acres of land throughout the state with 138,000 acres managed as investment land. Revenue from investments supports the UA Scholars
