SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Louisiana's Legislative Black Caucus hosts a town hall Thursday evening in Shreveport. Voters gathered at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum on Greenwood Road to hear from six elected lawmakers regarding the most recent legislative session.

District 39 State Senator Sam Jenkins says the town halls are vital in keeping people informed and engaged.

"We are making decisions in Baton Rouge that'll affect your pocketbook, your voting rights, among other things," said Jenkins. "So we need to make sure that we are engaging our constituents."

The group discussed why insurance reform in the state dominated the most recent session, yet no substantial change was enacted. They also talked about how groundwork has been laid for future projects coming to the northwestern
