U.S. Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana used an unusual prop to argue for tougher inspections of foreign seafood in a speech on the Senate floor: A poster-sized picture of the monster from sci-fi horror movie Alien.
Like other Louisiana leaders, Kennedy seized upon a recent recall of shrimp under Walmart's Great Value label. Federal inspectors found some of the shrimp were tainted with cesium-137, a radioactive isotope.
"This is what you could end up looking like if you eat some of the raw frozen shrimp being sent to the U.S. by other countries," Kennedy said, pointing to the image of the fanged, slimy creature.
Kennedy argued the recall showed the need for tougher inspections by the Department of Commerce.
