The expression “hope springs eternal” exists for a reason. We all want to believe that a good outcome is on the way. Sometimes it is. Often it isn’t. For New York Jets fans, it feels like it hasn’t in quite some time.

That history seems to be remembered by the average Jets fan, even in the face of a new general manager and head coach combo. At least according to a recent poll by The Athletic.

As shown here, only 42% of those who self-identified as Jets fans and took an Athletic poll from August 21 through August 31 reported being optimistic about the upcoming season. Of note, that 42% rate ranked 6th lowest, but it was as close in absolute value to the Las Vegas Raiders, who ranked 12th lowest with 65% of their fans reporting being optimistic, as it was to the 5th lowest Miami Dolphins,
