With a new grant, the Oakland Museum of California hopes to welcome tens of thousands more students through its doors over the next few years for lessons in California art, science, and history.
Museum leaders announced Thursday that OMCA will offer free field trips for all Oakland Unified School District schools over the next three years. As part of this effort, the museum will double its transportation scholarships, which pay for buses or transit fares.
“This is about lowering every barrier we can for every Oakland student and teacher to come to the museum for an experience here,” said Lori Fogarty, the museum’s executive director. “What we try to do here is lift up those stories that may not be in the textbooks, may not be in other museums, and reflect what is so special about Oakland
