Over my two decades in the arts sector, I’ve worked together with people from across the political spectrum — from hat-wearing MAGAs to card-carrying communists—as volunteers, donors, patrons, and participants in our regional arts ecosystem. As creative beings, we all delight in curiosity, imagination, and in the creative expressions of others. Despite our polarized climate, we find kinship in the shared influence of art to provide perspective, comfort, happiness, conflict, growth, understanding, hope, tranquility — 1,000 sensory and emotional experiences that make us human.
Of course, Republicans don’t hate the arts. They are some of the most ardent supporters.
