Early Friday morning, a house fire in Salisbury claimed the lives of an elderly couple, an 85-year-old man and his 79-year-old wife.

Firefighters were called out around 2:10 a.m. to heavy flames at a two-story, single-family home on the 1300 block of Middleneck Drive. Crews entered the residence, located the couple and brought them to EMS workers, who started CPR. Both were transported by ambulance to TidalHealth in Salisbury, where they were later pronounced dead.

Oliver Alkire, a spokesperson for the State Fire Marshal’s Office, said the victims’ names are being withheld pending confirmation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. He added the Salisbury Fire Department and other surrounding departments responded and worked with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.
