JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Mississippi Republican Party is calling for a criminal investigation after a recent social media post made by a Mississippi district attorney who is now running for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

In a Facebook video posted on Wednesday, Scott Colom appears to be calling Senator Hyde-Smith to wish her a good night, which his team says is a popular TikTok trend.

On Thursday, Colom stated that the video was an “obvious parody,” and that the voice “is clearly not Cindy Hyde-Smith and the voice never says that she’s Senator Hyde-Smith’s.”

The caption on Colom’s video is “Just wishing my opponent, Cindy Hyde-Smith, a good night!”

In the video, after the woman answers the call, saying “Hello?”, Colom responds, “Hey Senator Hyde-Smith.”
