NELSON — Police in British Columbia say they have suspended the search of a man missing since July in the province's backcountry.

RCMP say search and rescue teams have been canvassing an area along a trail in southeastern B.C. near Kaslo since Aug. 24, when Camden Guille-Sikora's vehicle was found abandoned at the trailhead.

Police say the search involved dog teams, drones and helicopters, but no sign has been found of the man.

RCMP spokesman Staff Sgt. Kris Clark says in a statement that the operation is likely now one of recovery and not rescue, given the amount of time that has passed and the area where the man could be located.

Police are asking experienced backcountry users to be aware in the area and report any signs they see that may indicate the man's whereabouts.
