Red Deer's unemployment rate experienced a notable growth this past month.
The region's unemployment rate in August 2025 was 6.7 per cent, according to the seasonally adjusted three-month moving average calculated by Statistics Canada.
This was a 1.3-percentage point increase from the month prior. The Red Deer region's labour force fell by about 700 workers, while employment also fell by 1,500 jobs, resulting in the unemployment rate's increase. The region's participation rate is now 68.2 per cent, down 0.9 percentage points from July 2025.
The Lethbridge region has the same unemployment rate as Red Deer, while Edmonton and Calgary both have higher rates of 8.5 and 7.7, respectively. Provincially, Alberta’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.4 per cent in August, which was up 0
