Stettler County has agreed to cut tax repayment deals with three separate energy industry companies

Low natural gas prices prompted the request from one company to pay just over $328,000 in 12 instalments.

Staff recommended that council approve a deal that would require the company to pay a minimum of $27,338 per month for 12 months and half of penalties, which would add another $27,557. The county would waive the other 50 per cent of penalties.

"They definitely would like to work us," said county tax clerk Sharon Larsen, adding that the company has paid all of its taxes in previous years.

"Due to the low prices they've run into some difficulties."

Natural gas has fallen from nearly $6 per thousand cubic feet in 2022 to about $1.45 in 2025.
