BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A toddler is dead after allegedly getting hold of a gun in Baton Rouge on Friday, Sept. 5.

The shooting happened around 7:36 a.m. on Sumrall Drive.

Baton Rouge Police Chief TJ Morse said a three-year-old boy got hold of an unsecured loaded handgun and accidentally shot himself.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed its investigators are responding.

The Baton Rouge Police Department is continuing its investigation.
