Abramson senior Ja’heim Butler was nervous before the start of Thursday’s season opener against Sarah T. Reed.

That’s because Butler was awarded jersey No. 9 during a ceremony before the start of the game at Tad Gormley honoring legendary Abramson alum Jacoby Jones . A nine-year NFL veteran and Super Bowl champion, Jones’ No. 9 Abramson jersey was framed and presented to his mother Emily London-Jones.

A two-way player at running back and defensive back, Butler’s interception with 1:29 to go in the game put Abramson up by two scores after he returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. Butler’s pick-six would be the final scoring play in a 14-2 Abramson win over Reed.
