Mark Volman has sadly passed away at the age of 78.

The musician and singer was a founding member of the band The Turtles and he had a No. 1 hit with the song “Happy Together.”

Mark died on Friday (September 5) in Nashville, Tenn., according to reports.

Variety reports that he suffered a “brief sudden illness” before his death. Back in 2020, he was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and he revealed his diagnosis to the world in 2023.

After The Turtles broke up in 1970, Mark and fellow vocalist Howard Kaylan started the musical duo Flo & Eddie. Later in life, he became a college professor, teaching music business courses at Nashville’s Belmont University.
